WELCOME TO GUY'S CHAPTER No. 395

A ROYAL ARCH CHAPTER

What Makes Guy's Chapter Special?

Guy’s Chapter was founded in 1885, making it one of the oldest Masonic Chapters in England. We have around 30 members and our aim is to enjoy our masonry, build strong friendships and help raise funds for worthy cause.

On Tuesday, 15th December, 1885, a meeting was held at the residence of Companion Herbert Stanley, 72 The Parade, Royal Leamington Spa, a building currently occupied by Marks & Spencer. Together with six other companions they resolved to establish a Royal Arch Chapter attached to Guy’s Lodge 395 and that a proposition be placed on the next summons of Guy’s Lodge authorising a loan of £60 from the Lodge funds.

On 11th February 1886 it was reported that Supreme Grand Chapter had granted the Warrant for the constitution of Guy’s Royal Arch Chapter and the chapter was consecrated on 2nd April that same year. Sadly the original charter, which cost £6.10.0 was destroyed by fire in 1919 and the replacement warrant, dated 4th February 1920, currently hangs in the room.

What Is A Royal Arch Chapter?

The Royal Arch – that which was lost is now found

ARCH –  The place of the deposition of the genuine secrets of a Master Mason.
ROYAL –  Alluding to the Princes or Elders of the Grand Sanhedrin.

And Jerusalem, the Holy city of David, the site of all three Temples. After the destruction of Solomon’s Temple the entire city was laid to waste and fell into decay. It is quite understandable that the actual location of the secret vaults would have been lost to living memory. The discovery of the actual location by the Sojourners and the artifacts therein had to be verified by the rulers of the day. The ceremony, which is the recovery of the lost secrets is somewhat dramatised. This is generally agreed to be the completion of the Master Mason Degree and to become a Companion you must be a Master Mason.
